Just by surfing the web for about 5 seconds it's easy to see that the majority of musicians on the internet are unsigned. Why is it then that the group with the most power happens to be those select few that are signed to major lables? They get all of the radio play, all of the promotion, all of the fame, and most importantly the biggest market share. Well get ready, WestSideWill.com is here to change all of that.
WestSideWill.com was built on one main idea - unsigned musicians should have their own radio station that is a closed shop to signed musicians, kind of like the majority of FM stations are the other way around. With that idea came the Top 10 Unsigned Artist Countdown was launched on May 18th, 2007 to over 200 enthusiastic listeners and we were as excited as they were (having just come up with the idea 2 weeks prior we were glad to have that many listeners with such little promotion.) Moral of the story here - we knew we had something good going.
So what did we do then? Well we kept growing. Growing to a point that we had to do a whole redesign of what WestSideWill.com was going to be. WestSideWill was always intended to be a great site for unsigned musicians, a place where they could have their music played on radio shows hosted by real DJs and not just put on shuffle by some computer program. We were able to accomplish all of our goals, but we felt like there needed to be more. So we launched WestSideWill 2.0 on July 1, 2009 (which if you are scoring at home is where you are right now.) WestSideWill 2.0 is brand spanking new and we are going to need time to get all of our great features and applications going, but good things will come to those who wait.
