Artist: The Whispering Tree
Album: The Whispering Tree
Reviewer: Matt D.

Whispering Tree's self titled album is a good if at times uneven 7 song debut EP. Occasionally, I found that the wonderfully haunting vocals of Eleanor Kleiner overpower the mixed instrumental backing. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. When at their best on songs like Willow, The Whispering Tree are able to combine Eleanor's voice with near perfectly matched musical accompaniment. Even on the weaker songs the vocals are just enchanting.
What Do You Like About the Album?: The strongest parts of this debut EP for me re the vocals and the lyrics.
How Would You Describe the Album's Sound: Definitely a folk/rock type sound, but the album includes sounds and instruments not found on your traditional folk/rock album.
What Other Musicians Would Fans of the Album Listen to: This is a tough one for me to answer, because it's not easy to put The Whispering Tree in the exact same notch as any other musician or group. So I'll just throw some names out there that this album reminds me of: Zero 7, Kelli Ali, The Shins, and even Cat Power.
What is Distinctive About this Release?: Although I can't put my finger on exactly what makes them so unique, something about their version of folk/rock is unlike anything I have heard before.
What Tracks Do You Recommend?: 1. Willow 2. Blood And Fire 6. Long Slow Fall
What's A Good Thing to Do While Listening to this Album?: Drive around or just relax.
Have You Ever Heard This Band Play Live?: I have not.
How Do You Obtain This Album: CD Baby

Overall Score: 7/10
